Ralph Warren Smithey

Mr. Ralph Warren Smithey, age 83, of Moravian Falls, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his home. Mr. Smithey was born April 17, 1929 in Wilkes County to Isaac Clark and Edith Smithey Eller. He was employed with the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a motor grader operator for 33 years. Mr. Smithey was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charlie Smithey and William Eller; and a grandson, Randy Pruitt.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Raye Minton Smithey of the home; two sons, Ronnie Smithey of Moravian Falls, Jimmy Smithey and wife Brenda of Boomer; four daughters, Norma Jean Brown and husband Jim of Moravian Falls, Judy West and husband Michael of North Wilkesboro, Kathy Goforth and husband Randy of Wilkesboro, Nancy Russell and husband Keith of Moravian Falls; five brothers, Herman Smithey, Glenn Smithey and wife Ethel all of Moravian Falls, Buster Smithey of Wilkesboro, Odell Eller and wife Evelyn, David Eller all of Moravian Falls; three sisters, Blanche Hickey of Conover, Shirley Minton and husband Roy of Hays, Naomi Minton and husband Donald of Clemmons; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 o’clock Friday, February 1, 2013 at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Cooper, Rev. L.J. Hayes and Rev. Bud Laws officiating. Burial will follow in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock on Friday, prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1908 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
