Gwyn Earl Welborn

Mr. Gwyn Earl Welborn, age 63, of Boone, formerly of Wilkes County, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at his home. Mr. Welborn was born May 20, 1949 in Wilkes County to Johnson and Loy Welborn. He was a prior member of Yellow Hill Baptist Church and former employee of Mountain House Restaurant in Boone. He had a passion for serving others in many ways. Also he had a love for spending time with his grandchildren and gardening. Mr. Welborn was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rodney Keith Welborn; and a brother, Billy Johnson Welborn.

Surviving are son, Reggie Welborn and wife Chasity of Lewisville; two brothers, Bryce Welborn of Millers Creek, Wayne Welborn and wife Imogene of Wilkesboro; three sisters, Jeanette Bumgarner and husband Stephen of Ferguson, Betty Reeves of North Wilkesboro, Jewel Church and husband Sam of Millers Creek; five grandchildren, Colby Welborn, Tanner Welborn, Micah Welborn, Zachary Welborn, Tate Welborn; and a dear family friend, Dora Belle Phillips Diener.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 o’clock Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Yellow Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Burl Greer and Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Yellow Hill Baptist Church from 12:30 until 2:00 o’clock on Wednesday, prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted. Pallbearers will be Bryant Welborn, Jeff Austin, Jeffrey Austin, Mike Austin, Adam Korevec, David Willard. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Welborn and Randy Welborn.
